On Fantastic 4 and Bridge to Terabithia   I'm Back!
    [Adyon] - June 20, 2007   [Ninya] - June 6, 2007

We s aw Fantastic 4 last weekend. I was pleasantly suprised! Actually, the movie was great! Not only was it ten times better than the first, but it turned out to be an excellent movie! Can't really say I ever read the Fantastic 4 comics, but as far as movies go, I liked it.

Though as for dissapointing movies, Ninya and I just saw a preview of one coming out on DVD. Bridge to Terabithia...We saw it in theaters. It looked like a fairly interesting fantasty tale, or at least it was advertised that way, though that wasn't really what the movie was about at all. The fantasy part of it isn't even the main focus. First off, it's a kids' daydreaming playland, so its just them having fun. Not that it's bad in the movie, but they it's totally misleading from the commercials. Most of us played pretend and could relate to the movie, but advertising it as a fantasy film is ludacris as it's not even close. The movie focus is about their troubles. People who go in expecting one thing, especially kids, may be pretty dissapointed. And then it has a twist ending. (Spoilers - Highlight to read) The main girl seemingly randomly dies. It really had nothing to do with the story as it had been building and wasn't really forshadowed even. It didn't feel like it fit. It was like the writer went, "Well I'm bored with the development I've put down on the characters, let's just end it with some drama". Maybe it was better done in the book, but it was completely out of place in the movie.

And then of course it had no closure on any of its points, other than acceptance of the spoiler I mentioned above. Well that's good and all, but it didn't fit with us in the first place, so it left us feeling just uneasy and unsatisfied. It would have been nice to get closure on some of the other points.

Sorry, the Terabithia thing was just brought about because of an ad we'd been seeing on TV making it look like a mesmerizing fantasy tale. False advertising bugs me. It doesn't even make sense. It basically says, "Man this movie we made sucks. How can we get someone to see it?" "I know I know! Let's make it look like ---------" It's already setup for a letdown. It breaks out of the mold of children's movies, but I don't think it does it properly. I can assume the book was better done, but it's sad that it fell so short as a movie. And I'm one of the more open minded people when it come to movies.

I had a great time at the Convention. I was so flattered to be photographed so much, it was a lot of fun, and actually I only saw one other person dressed as Belldandy the whole weekend.

I found some great artwork and a really cute swimsuit rap. My favorite thing is a painting of the Pirate Queen (who looks oddly like Keira Knightley in the face =P).

And I was amazed at the number of really cute (and skimpily dressed) women at the con. From the way Aaron talked about it, I thought that there was going to be no women at the con, but it was at least 51% female.

One thing about anime costumes: Girls, think about what you wear.if you can see through it, it doesn't count. Also, see my comic about short skirts on certain people ^_^
