Yeah... I know... I'm playin D&D. I started playing a while back, and you know i could see how so many people could enjoy this game. Its perfect for an over imaginative, hyper-energetic person like me. My first character was alot like me just cause I didnt know how to play all that great so whos character do i know better than me. Now I'm makin a new character who is almost the exact opposite of me. Anyways back to things. Anyone else played D&D? I mean the paper and pencil and thats all you got, other than the manuals D&D, not the game board type. I just was wondering how many other people have tried it, and i know alotta people dont like it cause of certain reasons, but i find it really enjoyable that you can do just about anything in the game. Its like a mini MMO to me, only the things you can do are endless. If youve played, I'd like to hear your experiences, cause if youve played, i know theres something interesting you can tell. |

Well, you already know I've never played, though everone else doesn't I guess. Not that I'd be against it. It would be pretty fun overall I'd think. I've always enjoyed roleplaying with others, as evident by the many party threads I've done with people on forums. You can see an example of our latest one if you have no clue what I'm talking about, you can see an example of one here. http://forums.megatokyo.com/index.php?showtopic=1725621&st=0 It's kinda dead now though. Those forums aren't what they used to be and all us good artists moved over to W.A.S. (The Webcomic Artist Society) because of the forums stricter rules.
Unfortunately I can't link any of those threads as you have to register to see them. Session's a member there though btw.
But yeah, I haven't played D&D myself. I know Raven (Justin) has and was trying to get the things together to do it, and Ninya has said she'd love to play, but that's about it. We should do one here sometime. =P |

I've played my first D&D game about 15 years ago (already? sigh..)
It was Advanced D&D at the time, not sure if the second edition was even out, but it was not long after if it wasn't. I've played a lot, bought second edition, played for years to that one too. Then I wanted something more. D&D is very good, but very specific too. It is designed to play a game in a medieval fantasy setting with epic characters.
So I looked for other systems while still playing D&D sometimes.
Tried White Wolf (Vampire: The Masquerade, etc), BESM(Big eyes, small mouth, an anime RPG), shadowrun (fantasy/dark future hybrid), and many others.
Until I found GURPS. It stands for Generic Universal Role Playing System. Basically it is designed to cover about all genres, settings, etc. Some are better covered than others, of course.
So nowadays GURPS is the system I use most. I bought D&D 3rd edition when it went out, but didn't play much.
But yeah, I'm a lot into pen and paper RPGs. Spent a lot on it too >.> |

Yeah when i come down next ill bring my character sheets and I can give my go at DMing. I always have my off the wall characters and stuff. My latest character is freakin sweet. Hes short and strong and has an attitude like Vegeta with a little bit of me added in there. He has one green eye and one red eye and uses a scythe. I have his whole story and all written down and hopefully we'll start a new campaign soon so i get my go at running him. Anyways..... totally off topic..... only a couple of weeks and it will commemorate my third year in the navy |

Yea, once.
using 4th edition, with a group of college friends, with one being our connection to the 'regulars'.
they were all much older, much more serious, and much more comfortable with the rules.
If I EVER play again, it'll have to be in more..relaxed atmosphere.
of course, I myself run the game I created from an amalgalm of my expierences in roleplaying games, and my players seem to like it.
but sometimes...I do miss being a player... |
