Previous | Rant Archives | Next Sincere Thanks & Harry Potter Thank you for your words of encouragement concerning my Grandfather. I truly appreciate that some of you took the time to write replies to my rant. My family is doing much better now, and we are beginning to help my Grandmother move on with her life. I recently watched the fifth Harry Potter movie, and I have to say that they did a very good job. Of course that's good for one of those movies.I never felt they did the books justice. The effects were very well done, though the end could have been more dramatic. I also wish they would have introduced Kreacher to be a little more unpleasant, like the little rat he was in the book. Bring the Rock "I'm crying colder, the lying's older Here's an intersting "Falling Sparrow" Video for those wondering what the hell I'm talking about. --- Happy 4th of July-ness July 4-5th edit: Fireworks kicked ass, Transformers kicked ass. 'Nuff said. -------- From the Transformers movie to the actual festivities, there's going to be quite a few things to look forward to this year. I don't think I'll be catching the midnight showing (here) of Transformers, since we'd have to get up pretty early after, but I'll be going tomorrow (Tue) hopefully. I'm also experimenting with a new style of art. I'm going to be putting fire crackers in pools of paint and splattering them on a canvas. Ninya and I got the idea from an episode of Myth Busters where they tried to see if they could cover a room by submerging dynamite in a can of paint. Needless to say it didn't work, but they commented they thought they did come up with a new way to do abstract art. ...and of course I decided I needed to try it! Cause...it's actually a cool idea...and...there's exploding things involved. ^ ^;; Happy fires everyone! If you're looking for an interesting read, you should check out the comic Lizzy. It's a Flash comic, and the animations are subtle but really great. I'd love to do something like that with a comic if I had the time. Anyway, It's pretty mature, (Some sexual themes, post-apocolyptic killing, dark themes, etc) but it's a pretty interesting story. The site's a little confusing to navigate, but the comic itself is great. If you like the dark apocolyptic type of stuff, you should check it out. A Brief Memorial The reason the comic was not up on Monday was because Adyon was with me and my family mourning the loss of my Grandfather. In tribute to his memory, I'd would just like to tell you all about him, he is the first of my relatives to join the "dearly departed". Ed Parsley was born May 18, 1937 , and died June 24, 2007. He had a loving wife and six children, also twelve grandchildren. He graduated from OPSU (our college) with a degree in Biology (my major) and began his own business, which he successfully owned for 37 years. My Granddad loved kids, and coached girl's softball for the Kids Inc. program. He also literally built the Kids Inc.Gym (almost single handedly), a local youth sports association. This gym was officially named in tribute for him today. My Granddad died of Parkinson's disease, which he had been living with for about six years now. He passed in his sleep Sunday morning seconds after my Grandmother kissed him on the head for the last time. (which was very fitting I thought) Sorry to bore the person who actually read all that, but I felt it had to be said. My Granddad was one of the kindest men in this world, and heaven is a better place now that he's there. Class Sucks Phew, I hate dealing with classes, especially in the Summer. It's not bad, but I hate the re-occuring schedule involved. Finishing one painting a week is a bit of a pain to say the least. Of course I say that now, as I'm doing a complicated painting this week. If it weren't for that it wouldn't be so hard. Normally it isn't anyway. After I get them to somewhere to scan them, I'll post up my paintings on here. On Fantastic 4 and Bridge to Terabithia We saw Fantastic 4 last weekend. I was pleasantly suprised! Actually, the movie was great! Not only was it ten times better than the first, but it turned out to be an excellent movie! Can't really say I ever read the Fantastic 4 comics, but as far as movies go, I liked it.
And then of course it had no closure on any of its points, other than acceptance of the spoiler I mentioned above. Well that's good and all, but it didn't fit with us in the first place, so it left us feeling just uneasy and unsatisfied. It would have been nice to get closure on some of the other points. Sorry, the Terabithia thing was just brought about because of an ad we'd been seeing on TV making it look like a mesmerizing fantasy tale. False advertising bugs me. It doesn't even make sense. It basically says, "Man this movie we made sucks. How can we get someone to see it?" "I know I know! Let's make it look like ---------" It's already setup for a letdown. It breaks out of the mold of children's movies, but I don't think it does it properly. I can assume the book was better done, but it's sad that it fell so short as a movie. And I'm one of the more open minded people when it come to movies. A-Kon And everything can now settle back down, my finals, inerterm class, trip to open up the art gallery we've been doing marketing for, and now my week at A-Kon are gone! I start my summer painting class tomorrow, but it won't take up my schedule like before so we're good. I missed a couple weeks of updates there, and I was worried I was about to turn into Morr when it came to updates. =P Now then, on to the convention! I went to A-Kon in Dallas last weekend for anyone who didn't know. It was definately a blast. I've only got A-Cen in Chicago to compare it to, as far as major conventions go, but it was well orchestrated. Other than having some trouble with things I wanted to see filling up the room they were provided, I didn't really have any complaints. =3 Ninya dressed up as Belldandy from Ah! My Goddess. I'll try and post some pictures later on that. I'll have to see if I can find some others of her online as she got her picture taken a LOT. She only wore it one day for about 4-5 hours, as we got switched into normal clothes to go eat and she never got around to putting it back on. She put a pair of cat ears on after she changed back...and she was still getting her picture taken constantly. ^^;; I made it a mission to get some really good art at this convention, and did I ever. There were some really amazing pieces I managed to pick up. The only pieces I missed that I really wanted were a couple beautiful Metroid pictures by Ivan Flores. I'm really bummed about that one. I don't buy anything until like the 2nd day when I've looked at everything and made up my mind, and it so happened that I came when he was participating in the Iron Artist competition. Then I ran out of money before I realized. I also would have liked to pick up some prints from the VG Cats crew, but I decided to come back when the line was shorter, and forgot. >< We went to see a couple things run by Spike Spencer (Shinji from Evangelion and MAR), who was definatley an outgoing type. He could even compete with Ninya when it comes to having a strong presense in the room. We also saw the guys who did Cyanide and Happiness as well as Jennie Breeden who does Devil's Panties. We went and saw a panel they did on webcomics. I missed the Humor, Am I Funny? panel VGCats, Cyanide and Happiness, and a few others did. Well, we didn't exactly MISS it, but it was full. I got to see the Japanese rock band Mell perform. Also, therave was pretty nice too. I'd say A-Cen's was a lot better, but it's Texas, they're not as used to raves as Chicago. They didn't have as neat of a light show going on, nor was the overall room as dark which took away from the lights flashing 'nd such. Other than that, Ninya and I spent the day after the con at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, soaking up sun and enjoying the water. And then we went to our hotel and passed out... Ninya says "No" to Drugs I had a great time at the Convention. I was so flattered to be photographed so much, it was a lot of fun, and actually I only saw one other person dressed as Belldandy the whole weekend. I found some great artwork and a really cute swimsuit rap. My favorite thing is a painting of the Pirate Queen (who looks oddly like Keira Knightley in the face =P). And I was amazed at the number of really cute (and skimpily dressed) women at the con. From the way Aaron talked about it, I thought that there was going to be no women at the con, but it was at least 51% female. One thing about anime costumes: Girls, think about what you wear.if you can see through it, it doesn't count. Also, see my comic about short skirts on certain people ^_^ |
